Don’t be so bright?
Things you can do to help really do begin at home. Why not try to save energy and some money at home by following some of our tips.
- Central heating – many people overheat their homes. Just turning down your central heating down by 1oC could cut your heating bill by 10%, saving you £15 to £30 a year
- Kettles – every time you make a cuppa, boil just the water you need and in one week you’ll save enough energy to light your house for a day.
- Lights – remember to turn off the lights you don’t need. Switching off unnecessary lights for just one night saves enough energy to run a stereo 24 hours.
- Lights – installing just one energy-saving light bulb could save you £10 a year, and if every household in the UK installed just one, we could power the lighting currently used in 3 million homes for a year.
- TV’s, computer’s and hi-fi’s – even when they are on standby they can still use up to 20 % of the energy they would if fully turned on. Switch them off using the on-off button on the machine.
- Washing machines – save water and energy by using a lower temperature wash or an economy programme and by washing a full load rather than a half load.
- Fridges – let food cool down before you put it in the fridge or freezer and avoid leaving the fridge open for longer that you need.
- When buying electrical products choose the most energy efficient ones and reduce your energy bills
